Every generation, they say, has their heroes...
Alexander the Great
Caesar
Ghenghis Khan
Ben Franklin
Aquaman
But with a new Century, a new breed of superheroes is needed. Who can save us from "them"--and ourselves?
We at The Decline and Fall of Saturday Night have identified the men and women who have what it takes
to make an impact in our world, if they can just focus...
Oh, there are those who will say that their mundane skills do not meet the standard set by those who now reside in the
Hall of Heroes.
We ignore those nay-sayers entirely and present: THE AWESOMETASTICS
- Commander Maximus Mercurius II: a man with a plan, a backpack full of Army surplus equipment, and two--count
'em, two--eyepatches, despite having the use of both eyes
- Johnny Danger: former NFL running back, recruited by the CIA to execute spontaneous career-ending
tackles on famous soccer players worldwide--thus ensuring the sport never catches on in America
- Raven Scarlet-Blayze: competent pharmacist, master of TWO languages (one of which is English),
good sister
- The Enigmatic X: regarded by "normal" men as a mute, The Enigmatic X lives a chameleon-like existence
in the silent shadows, in a land forgotten by those who are unable to remember--clearly an invaluable skill
- Whaleboy: while no one has actually confirmed Whaleboy's tales of derring-do (as no other land-dwelling
humans speak any of the whale languages), we feel he is impressive, to say the least
- Madame Autruche: while no one has actually confirmed Madame Autruche's tales of derring-do (as
none of us here speak French), we feel she has got to be good at something, right?
While their noble band does run into the occasional scheduling difficulty, their grim and urgent to-do's are among the
most pressing issues of our day.
Nonetheless, proving that Renaissance Men do not only frequent Renaissance Fairs, The Awesometastics and their superhero
bretheren do find time to continue a centuries-old tradition: The Quill and Leotard: Literary Reflections
for Superheroes, by Superheroes, fondly known simply as "the quill and 'tard."
